Caroline Flack has opened up about her exit as host of The Xtra Factor, saying the opportunity to take part in Strictly Come Dancing was simply "good timing".

Caroline's departure from X Factor's ITV2 spin-off show was announced in June, after three years presenting the show.

Caroline said it was "time to pass the baton" and her new replacement was later revealed to be BBC Radio 1Xtra host Sarah-Jane Crawford.

Two months later, it was announced that 34-year-old Caroline would be strutting her stuff on the dance floor for this year's Strictly, making a move from presenter to contestant.

Speaking to Alan Carr on his Chatty Man show, which will air tonight (3 October), Caroline says her move from ITV to its rival BBC wasn't intentional.

"Yeah, everyone says 'oh you've done it on purpose - you've gone over to the rival'," Caroline said. "I didn't really see it like that, the job I was doing was no longer mine, and then Strictly came at around about the same time so, yey - good timing."

Also on the show are Caroline's fellow Strictly stars Gregg Wallace, Scott Mills, Pixie Lott, Frankie Bridge and Mark Wright, who confessed his newfound love for sequins!
