The mum-of-two from Wales wowed the panel at her initial room auditions and again during this weekend's arena auditions. belting out 'Try A Little Tenderness' to the audience of 5,000 and making it through to Boot Camp.
Chatting on ITV's This Morning today, she revealed she'd actually bumped into judge Mel B before seeing her at the judging panel on stage.
"I was singing along, practising in the toilets and this lady came through and I did a double take! 'It's you!' And she said, 'Yeah, it's me. Good luck!'"
Helen was entered for X Factor by her son Joseph - and found out via an email while she was cooking tea for Joseph and his sister!
"I had an email on my phone saying I had an audition on such and such a date," she recalled. "I was thinking, 'I'm on X Factor?! I haven't applied!' I could hear sniggering in the other room and the kids were going, 'Please go on!' Joe said, 'If you love me, you'll do it!"
Helen did do it (obviously!) but admitted she wasn't even sure she was going to go through with her audition while standing in the audition holding area.
"Even on my first audition I wasn't going to go ahead and do it but the researcher told me to say. I just didn't think I'd be able to do it at all."
But now, after wowing the judges in the intimate room setting and again at the mammoth Wembley, she's got her sights set on the next stage of the competition.
"Wembley was amazing. I've always wanted to do that. That has always been my dream - that big audience - and now I've lived my dream I have other ones I want to take further. The standing ovation was amazing. I'll never forget it."
