Pro Green, real name Stephen Manderson, appeared in court in March and pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence, although he insisted he did it to protect wife Millie Mackintosh from a mugger.
Two months later, Professor Green was taken to hospital after he was crushed between two cars while on his way to a gig. As a result, the release of his album Growing Up In Public was delayed.
The rapper has now revealed the emotional toll the incidents had on him, saying that he wanted to "get out" of his own skin.
Speaking to The Mirror, Professor Green said: "I was definitely in the situation where the thought of ending it crossed my mind.
"I didn't think about how I'd do it, but there were moments with the anxiety of it all, I wanted to get out of my own skin."
Professor Green's own father took his own life when the star was 24 and he admits he found therapy and talking about his feelings helped. He has done the same to get through his most recent difficult patch.
"I've got the tools to get myself through it," he added.
On 10 September last year, Professor Green married former Made In Chelsea star Millie Mackintosh at the exclusive Babington House in Somerset.
His wife is clearly the shining light in his life and on Wednesday night, Millie and Professor Green were pictured looked loved-up and happy as they celebrated their first wedding anniversary in central London.
The couple enjoyed a romantic meal together before ending their night with drinks at hotspot The Groucho Club.
Their anniversary fell on the day Millie launched her own clothing range and that morning she tweeted: "Feeling very emotional remembering how I felt 1 year ago on my wedding day year ago and also because it's @MillieMClothing's launch!"
Professor Green, meanwhile, told his fans: "This time last year I was putting the finishing touches to my wedding speech. Happy anniversary @millsmackintosh x."
