An assault charge against Justin Bieber in Toronto, Canada has been dropped.

A lawyer for the 20-year-old singer has confirmed no further action will be taken in relation to the alleged incident involving a limousine driver in late December last year.

Attorney Brian Greenspan said outside court (via Toronto Sun): "This is an example of the system working as it should. Police laid the charge after a complaint was made and the Crown did its job by reviewing all the evidence before reaching the correct decision."

The complaint had been made on 30 December after the limo driver picked up Justin and five others from a nightclub. However, the prosecutor told the court that there was no reasonable prospect of conviction after reviewing the evidence.

"There were a number of people in the vehicle seated behind the driver at the time of the incident, and the Crown is not in a position to establish the identification of the person who came into contact with the complainant beyond a reasonable doubt based on the evidence available," said David Mitchell.

Justin's lawyer said the singer was "relieved" to hear the charge would be dropped and he is looking forward to returning his focus to work.

Meanwhile, the star's manager Scooter Braun tweeted: "So when @justinbieber is charged with crimes he didn't commit it's worldwide news. But when all charges are dropped it's no where. Smh."

The Toronto charge was just one of a handful of legal issues faced by the Canadian-born singer in reent times.

He was arrested and released on charges of assault and dangerous driving in his hometown of Stratford, Ontario last month following an alleged collision between his ATV and a minivan.

Justin had been in the area with on-off girlfriend Selena Gomez at the time.

A lawyer later said: "Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez' peaceful retreat in Stratford this weekend was unfortunately disrupted by the unwelcome presence of the paparazzi. This has regrettably resulted in charges of dangerous driving and assault.

"Mr. Bieber and Ms. Gomez have fully cooperated in the police investigation. We are hopeful that this matter will be quickly resolved."
