Channeling her inner Jessica Rabbit, Demi looked absolutely gorgeous in this a-maz-ing plunging number over the weekend and it's no surprise the Disney starlet came out on top of the VMAs best dressed list.
But on seeing pictures of herself from the night, the 22-year-old was prompted to address past health battles and in a heartfelt message, Demi told her followers on Instagram she has finally learned to love herself.
Oozing plenty of A-list glamour, Demi looked every inch the global superstar as she happily posed for the cameras on her arrival to the awards.
And not only looking beautiful, the star admitted she felt as beautiful as she looked.
Uploading an image containing four of her VMA red carpet looks - including her most recent - Demi told her fans in an inspiring message that it has taken her a long time to reach a healthy and happy place where she can feel comfortable in her own skin.
Demi wrote: "This picture makes me feel so many mixed emotions.. I remember the day I wore the dress in the very first picture. I remember asking for spanx to flatten my stomach because I use to feel so heavy and "fat". Now looking at this picture, you can clearly see my hip bones.
"It makes me sad because I wasted so many years ashamed of my body when I could've been living the happy and healthy life I live today. It TRULY just goes to show you that your perceptions can lie to you. OR they can make you learn to enjoy life.
"Fortunately looking at the picture of myself in the red dress yesterday, I not only feel so grateful for the love and support I've had from fans, friends and family, but... I also feel.. beautiful. I'm so excited to live my life the way I deserve to and to the complete fullest. Thank you guys once again.. I'm so thankful for my Lovatics. I love you... And never forget that staying strong is worth it."
Since spending time in rehab back in 2010 to deal with both emotional and physical struggles, Demi has spoken openly about her battles with bulimia and self-harm.
On speaking out about her own experiences, the former X Factor USA judge hopes she can help others.
Last year, in an interview with Cosmopolitan's spin-off student edition, Cosmo On Campus, Demi said: "I want to be the person for other girls that I needed to admire when I was looking for help and strength... It's OK to love your body the way it is and it's OK to reach out for help."
After posting her message on Monday (25 August) following the VMAs, fans were quick to show their support for Demi.
One user wrote: "You were perfect, you ARE perfect and you always will remain perfect.....love you Demi <3", while another said: "You are an example for all young women."
We couldn't agree more.
