Betty is one of the most loved and sought-after animated characters and is universally adored as a screen starlet.

The immaculately styled curls, red lips and short-skirted character became the first female animated star at the end of the 1920s.

Of today's announcement, Betty said, "I'm so excited to return to the big screen – and I only work with the best! Let's have some fun, Simon. Boop-Oop-a-Doop!"

Music mogul Simon commented: "Betty is an icon, and one of the biggest stars in the world – I'm thrilled to be working with her."

But will Simon have his work cut out for him? "Betty, I've worked with some serious divas but I think you could be the biggest of them all!"

The film will be produced by Zareh Nalbandian and Jason Lust from Animal Logic, and Simon Cowell and Adam Milano from Syco. This is just the latest in a long line of productions for Simon, who has worked on Pudsey the Dog movie, Paul Potts biopic One Chance, and One Direction's This Is Us documentary.
