Hollywood legend Lauren Bacall dies, aged 89

Hollywood legend Lauren Bacall has died, aged 89.

The actress is reported to have passed away at her home in New York following a major stroke.

Her son confirmed her death via Twitter, saying: "With deep sorrow, yet with great gratitude for her amazing life, we can confirm the passing of Lauren Bacall."

Ms Bacall made her Hollywood debut at the age of 19 in 1944 and starred in more than thirty movies and several theatre productions, winning a slew of awards including an honorary Oscar in 2009 recognising her incredible and enduring career across seven decades.

Her screen debut was in To Have Or Have Not opposite Humphrey Bogart, who would later become her husband. They married in 1945 and had two children together.

They went on to star in three other movies together: Key Largo, The Big Sleep and Dark Passage.

Following Mr Bogart's death in 1957, Ms Bacall married Jason Robards and had a third child.
