With no engagement announcement before or even a hint that marriage was on the cards, it will certainly go down as one of the biggest celebrity surprises at the year.
But she's not the first to pull off a wedding stunner. Here are some other celebrity weddings that managed to slip in under the radar and make us say, 'Wow, when did that happen?!'
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, July 2014
X Factor judge Cheryl Cole became Cheryl Fernandez-Versini in July 2014 when she married Frenchman Jean-Bernard in a secret Mustique ceremony. A big surprise for fans!
She announced the news out of the blue via Instagram, alongside an image of her wedding ring. They'd been first linked earlier that year but had never even confirmed they were dating.
Cher Lloyd and Craig Monk, November 2013
Former X Factor star Cher Lloyd has been in demand ever since leaving the ITV show, but she still found time last year to marry fiancé Craig Monk in a secret ceremony.
Cher, 20, broke the news of her marriage via a gorgeous Instagram picture of herself in a wedding gown… but it was so unexpected some fans wondered if it was for real or from a photoshoot.
It was definitely for real!
'Swagger Jagger' star Cher and hairdresser Craig, 23, had become engaged the previous year, after meeting via work in 2011.
Katie Price and Kieran Hayler, January 2013
Much like Cheryl and Jean-Bernard, model Katie Price and part-time stripper/builder Kieran Hayler enjoyed a whirlwind romance before secretly marrying in the Bahamas.
Kieran proposed to Katie on Christmas Day 2012 and just a couple of weeks later they jetted to the sunshine for a beach wedding at the Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort and Spa in January 2014.
Talk about quick wedding planning!
According to sources, Katie only told friends of her planned marriage just a day before flying to the Bahamas. She only publicly confirmed the engagement the previous weekend, saying: "It just feels right. I know what people will say about me because I've heard it all before. But life is short so when something feels right, I just go for it."
Sadly, just over a year later, Katie announced she was divorcing Kieran after discovering he'd been cheating on her for seven months with her best friend Jane Pountney. Even worse, he was cheating while she was pregnant with their second child.
Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom, September 2009
Khloe Kardashian's whirlwind wedding to Lamar Odom in September 2009 was featured on a special episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
The reality star stunned fans and her famous family when she announced plans to wed basketball star Lamar after just one month to the day after meeting each other.
Khloe was walked down the aisle by stepdad Bruce Jenner at a private home in Beverly Hills, watched by guests including her famous family and pals Ryan Seacrest, Chelsea Handler and Kelly Osbourne.
Her mum Kris Jenner had just over a week to plan the lavish affair and a pre-wedding reception.
The following year Khloe and Lamar renewed their vows before Khloe was blindfolded and taken to a 'secret location' which turned out to be where they'd tied the knot.
Unfortunately, the marriage ended in divorce last year when Khloe split from Lamar amid allegations of cheating.
Britney Spears and Jason Alexander, January 2004
Oops… I Got Married in Vegas. Britney Spears stunned absolutely EVERYONE when she married childhood pal Jason Alexander in Las Vegas after an apparently wild night out.
Brit was just 22 when she tied the knot at the Little White Wedding Chapel in a midriff-flaunting top, casual jeans and a baseball cap.
But just 55 hours later the marriage was kaput after Brit's lawyers had it annulled. Her record company suggested it had been a joke that went too far.
Jason later chatted to Access Hollywood, saying: "We were just looking at each other and said, 'Let's do something wild, crazy. Let's go get married, just for the hell of it."
Well, it was certainly wild!
Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, February 2014
A match made in TV heaven! Fans were equally surprised and delighted when it emerged Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester had married The OC actor Adam Brody in February 2014.
Leighton and Adam had kept their romance so secret, plenty us never even knew they were dating! It's thought they began seeing each other the previous year and married on their one-year anniversary.
They had met back on 2011 on the set of their movie The Oranges and romance blossomed from friendship.
Sadly for Blair Waldorf and Seth Cohen fans, these two are keeping details of their marriage firmly under wraps, so there's no word (or pictures) on the dress, ceremony or guests. Sob.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, April 2008
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's marriage in April 2008 after just two months of dating was so surprising that many believed it was simply a hoax when they first heard it!
Some even cried publicity stunt as Mariah had an album out at the time and Nick was promoting several movies. A wall of silence from either party on whether or not the nuptials were real just served to fuel the speculation.
But not so!
Mariah and Nick met on the set of her video for 'Bye Bye'… leading to a not so bye bye romance.
Their beautiful sunset ceremony at the singer's home in the Bahamas was just the start of a happy and firm marriage which has spawned two children: Monroe and Moroccan.
In fact, Mariah was so convinced she'd marry Nick, that she had Mrs Cannon tattooed on her back before they'd even had the marriage license signed! Talk about impulsive! He has a Mariah tattoo on his shoulder.
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, September 2012
Perhaps it's no surprise that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds kept their wedding so secret, given their love of privacy.
Gossip Girl star Blake and movie star Ryan managed to pull off a secret ceremony in September 2012, tying the knot at a plantation in Charleston, South Carolina.
They had begun dating a year before.
Although the wedding came as a shock – as they hadn't even confirmed an engagement before – they pulled off a pretty spectacular ceremony for their guests.
Just 35 of their nearest and dearest attended the intimate ceremony, which took place at the Boone Hall Plantation, made famous by the movie The Notebook. Aww!
