X Factor judge Cheryl Cole has diffused reports of any animosity between herself and Mel B, stating that her fellow judge was even her favourite Spice Girl!

Girls Aloud star Cheryl has returned to the judging panel of the ITV talent show this year alongside Simon Cowell, long-standing judge Louis Walsh and new recruit Mel.

"There's a good dynamic on the panel," Cheryl told a group of reporters at Capital's Summertime Ball with Vodafone this weekend (21 June). "Mel B was my favourite Spice Girl, if I remember correctly."

The Geordie songstress even said that she likes the idea of a Spice Girls vs Girls Aloud theme for the live shows!

"It's a really good idea," said Cheryl. "A really clever idea, I'm going to put it out to the producers."

We'd love to see this happen - imagine renditions of the Spice Girls' 'Viva Forever' and '2 Become 1' vs Girls Aloud's 'Love Machine' and 'The Promise'. We reckon it may be a tad harder for the boys to pull it off though!

While Cheryl said she was getting on well with Mel, it seems things aren't as smooth sailing with Louis, who once managed Girls Aloud. When asked how she was getting on with Louis, Cheryl replied: "Same as always."

When asked if they bicker, the 30-year-old 'Call My Name' singer admitted: "Always!"

Auditions for The X Factor kicked off on 16 June with the judges arriving in Manchester to begin their search for the next biggest singing sensation - and Cheryl already has a clear idea of what category she wants to mentor.

"It's really hard, but at the moment I'd say I want the Girls, but maybe I should do reverse psychology and say another category!"

Cheryl has had considerable success with the Girls category, leading Alexandra Burke to success as the fifth winner of The X Factor in 2008. Cheryl also mentored Cher Lloyd during the seventh series in 2010. Despite finishing fourth, Cher has gone on to achieve notable US success.
