The Girls Aloud star is making a music comeback with new single 'Crazy Stupid Love', and her fourth solo album is now scheduled for release in November.
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, which will air tonight (20 June), Cheryl explains: "I was exhausted, I'd had a solo tour and then toured with Girls Aloud so I took a year off to be with my family.
"It was the first time off I'd had in 10 years – it was a normal time."
Cheryl, 30, who has returned as a judge on this year's X Factor, added: "I did party a lot. I needed to let loose and it was the best thing I could do. The title sums up that time."
Since going solo, Cheryl has notched up three albums, with her last release being Million Lights in June 2012. She's achieved three number one singles with 'Call My Name', 'Promise This' and 'Fight For This Love'.
Cheryl has teamed up with Tinie Tempah for her latest track, 'Crazy Stupid Love', which will be released on 27 July. She'll be performing the catchy track and a collection of her other hits at the Capital FM Summertime Ball this weekend (Saturday 21 June), which will be held at Wembley Stadium.
