Simon Cowell may take a step back from TV to concentrate on baby Eric after this year's X Factor

Simon Cowell is enjoying being a dad so much, he's considering taking some time off after the X Factor.

This year's Britain's Got Talent had relatively disappointing viewing figures compared to previous years, X Factor USA was cancelled after three series and the musical based on the X FactorI Can't Sing – ran for only five weeks.

It hasn't been the media mogul's most successful year, career wise, yet Simon, 54, is determined to make X Factor 2014 the best series yet.

He begged Cheryl Cole to return, reportedly paying her a whopping £1.5 million, and last week hired former Spice Girl Mel B – to ensure this year's show packs more of a punch.

But Simon is enjoying being a dad to baby Eric so much, friends say he'd be more than happy to spend more time as a family.

A source said: "While in the past Simon might have obsessed about low ratings and called meeting after meeting to discuss them, since Eric was born, he's changed.

"He loves his work and always will, but he wants to be there to see Eric grow up."

When partner Lauren Silverman, 37, gave birth to their son in February, friends say Simon's priorities shifted.

The source said: "Simon doesn't have the same fire in his belly. He's very clear that if things don't work out he'll just spend some time with Eric, relax and enjoy life."

The X Factor UK auditions kicked off in Manchester yesterday.
