Chris Fountain has kept a very low profile since being axed from Coronation Street last year, but at the weekend he was pictured helping ex-castmate Ryan Thomas celebrate his 30th birthday.

Former soap star Chris was snapped leaving the Rosso Restaurant in Manchester on 7 June, where Ryan had hosted a bash for his nearest and dearest - the first time we've seen him out in ages.

Other Corrie stars of past and present at the party included Jennie McAlpine, Samia Ghadie, Tina O'Brien, Brooke Vincent, Beverley Callard and Shobna Gullati.

Chris was sacked from Coronation Street in August 2013 after he was exposed as a YouTube rapper who had uploaded vile videos containing offensive lyrics.

The actor – who played Tommy Duckworth – later apologised for his videos, recorded under his alter-ego The Phantom, which included disgusting references to raping and assaulting women.

"I would like to sincerely apologise for any offence I have caused. I am deeply ashamed by the lyrics and very much regret my behaviour," he said in a statement at the time.

"The videos were made over a year ago when I was experimenting with music and I've not done anything like it since, nor will I."

A spokesperson for ITV said: "Chris Fountain's contract with ITV has been terminated as a result of the unacceptable comments he made in a number of online clips."
