Brad Pitt has broken his silence on being attacked by notorious celebrity 'prankster' Vitalii Sediuk, accusing the journalist of trying to bury his head in his crotch.

The actor had been attending the premiere of fiancée Angelina Jolie's movie Maleficent in Los Angeles last week when Vitalii jumped a barrier and raced towards him.

Reports at the time claimed Vitalii had struck Brad in the face and broken his sunglasses.

Now, in a statement to People, father-of-six Brad has given his side of the story, saying he saw Vitalii lunging towards him while he was signing autographs.

"This guy had latched onto my lapels. I looked down and the nutter was trying to bury his face in my crotch, so I cracked him twice in the back of the head – not too hard – but enough to get his attention, because he did let go," said Brad.

The movie heartthrob went on to say Vitalii then tried to hold his hand, before reaching up and taking his sunglasses.

Luckily, Brad wasn't hurt.

Security quickly intervened and Vitalii was arrested following the attack. This week, he appeared in court and was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to attend a year of psychological counselling, and undergo 20 days of community service.

The attack on Brad wasn't his first headline-making stunt. He previously tried to kiss Will Smith on the red carpet, stuck his head under America Fererra's dress, and tried to rub his face in the crotches of Bradley Cooper and Leonardo DiCaprio. He also crashed the stage at the Grammys last year while Adele was about to accept an award.

Vitalii has now been told to stay at least 500 yards away from all celebrity events and remain away from Brad, Angelina and their family.

Brad told People that he doesn't mind others having a bit of fun but Vitalii needed to make sure he didn't spoil big red carpet events for everyone, as celebrities may be more wary to approach fans for autographs.

And, quite rightly, he concluded: "And [Vitalii] should know, if he tries to look up a woman's dress again, he's going to get stomped."

Vitalii, meanwhile, has insisted: "I am a normal guy. I am not crazy." He told The AP he was just trying to hug Brad when he lost his balance and fell over, and perhaps what happened at the Maleficent premiere should prompt event organisers to tighten security around stars.

Since the incident with Brad, he has been fired from the Ukrainian television station that he worked for.
