Last night, the band made their first public appearance since the footage was published online, performing to a sold out crowd in Sunderland on their 'Where We Are Tour'.
No reference was made to the video, according to concert goers.
Fans have been left divided following the leaked tape, which was reportedly filmed while the band were in Peru on the South American leg of their tour.
It features Zayn and Louis but not fellow band members Niall Horan, Harry Styles or Liam Payne.
In the short video, the boys can be seen passing a lit cigarette between them. At one point Louis is heard saying: "Here we are leaving Peru, joint lit, happy days."
After spying a police officer driving past their car, he says: "He's having a look. He's thinking, 'I'm sure I can smell an illegal substance in there' and he's hit the nail on the head."
A rep for the band has said lawyers are looking into the situation.
While none of 1D have commented directly on the footage, singer Liam did hint at it when he tweeted yesterday about a "crazy" day.
The star wrote: "Woah there's some pretty weird s**t going on ATM everyone just calm down and don't do anything stupid cuz u can't take it back. I know some people are having a laugh and that's all well and good but some people will take this s**t serious so I suggest we stop."
He added: "Today is such a weird day."
Before taking to the stage in Sunderland, he tweeted: "Right everybody concert time let's try and keep the pg rating lol for Christ sake somebody help me restore sanity."
Despite all the headlines around the band, it seems they still put on an impressive performance and wowed fans, judging by tweets from concert goers!
