Northern Irish golfer Rory announced this week that he'd ended his relationship with Caroline – just a few days after invitations to their wedding had been sent out.
Tweeting after the news, tennis star Caroline said: "It's a hard time for me right now. Thanks for all the sweet messages. Happy I support Liverpool right now because I know I'll never walk alone."
Among those offering support was fellow tennis pro Serena Williams, who tweeted: "I'll always walk with you #friendsforever."
Caroline replied: "Aww, thank you!"
Fans were stunned when Rory announced he'd ended his engagement to Caroline on 21 May. He'd proposed to her in Australia over New Year where she'd been preparing for the Australian Open.
In a statement, the golfer said the problem was his.
"The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails."
Rory added: "There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people. I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we have had. I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting."
