Former Coronation Street star Suranne Jones has got engaged following a six-week whirlwind relationship, according to reports.

Suranne, who played Karen McDonald in the ITV1 soap before quitting in 2004, is said to have met a man called Laurence - who is 10 years her senior - at a wedding.

The couple have apparently kept their romance a secret, although Suranne was spotted with a ring on her wedding finger earlier this week.

A source told The Sun: "She and Laurence are really happy." It has also been reported that Laurence has referred to Suranne as 'Sarah' when he mentions her in passing.

Just six weeks ago, Suranne - who is currently starring in BBC1 drama The Crimson Field - described herself as "single" in an interview.

Reveal has contacted Suranne's rep for a comment.

Suranne, 35, played the part of Karen for four years in Corrie. During her time on the cobbles, she got engaged to IT consultant Jim Phelan but they split in 2003.

Other past boyfriends include former EastEnders star Marc Bannerman and plumber Lorenzo Giove.

Meanwhile, it was recently announced that Suranne will be returning to detective drama Scott & Bailey, after a fourth series was commissioned.
