Michelle Keegan has auditioned for a role in a mystery US TV series following her departure from Coronation Street.

The actress is busy lining up her next job after filming her final scenes as Tina McIntyre, which will air on the ITV soap next week.

Michelle told the Daily Star: "I have had an audition for an American series, which is great… It is a new series. I can't say what the other auditions are but I have had one recall so far.

"It is just getting back into the process of auditioning," she continued. "It is really odd because I went to one audition a week ago and when I walked in, there were 25 girls who looked exactly the same and I thought, 'Oh my God, this is exactly how I remember!'"

She added that her Corrie fame could help her or go against her as people may stereotype her as Tina.

If Michelle does bag a role on a US TV series, she'll be following in the footsteps of fellow Brit Kelly Brook, who will star in upcoming American comedy One Big Happy.

It was announced earlier this month that US TV network NBC had ordered a series of the sitcom after being impressed by the pilot. One Big Happy co-stars Elisha Cuthbert and Nick Zano and revolves around a man who decides to have a baby with his lesbian best friend, only to then fall in love with a gorgeous British woman, played by Kelly.

As well as auditioning for new TV work, Michelle is keeping busy in other areas. She's currently serving as a judge for the Lorraine High Street Fashion Awards, and just announced a collaboration with Lipsy to bring out her own clothing range.
