Beyoncé, Jay Z and Solange Knowles have finally broken their silence and issued a statement following Solange's attack on Jay Z in a hotel elevator.

CCTV footage leaked online earlier this week showed Solange kicking out and lunging towards her sister's rapper husband while a security guard tried to hold her back.

As the video lacked audio, it has led to numerous rumours about what could have caused such an incident.

Now, after days of silence, the trio have issued a joint statement to The AP – although they've still not explained exactly why Solange was so angry.

The statement read: "As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it.

"Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologised to each other and we have moved forward as a united family."

While the statement declined to address just what Solange was so mad about, it did stress that rumours she'd been "erratic" and drunk throughout the night were not true.

"The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behaviour throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day, families have problems and we're no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same."

But still.... what happened?! We want to know!

The video was filmed in a lift at The Standard Hotel in New York shortly after the star-studded Met Ball earlier this month, where all three were in attendance.

In the video, while Solange is lunging towards Jay Z - who doesn't appear to retaliate - Beyoncé can be seen standing beside them, although she is not involved in the altercation.

While this statement is the first public comment on the spat, both Beyoncé and Solange have used their Instagram accounts this week to clear up rumours of a family rift.

Solange Instagrammed this throwback of herself and Bey yesterday.

Both girls have posted throwback pictures of each other to their accounts, while Beyoncé also proved all is well between her and Jay by attending a basketball game with him after the footage was leaked.

Meanwhile, the Standard Hotel has fired the employee responsible for leaking the footage, saying it is "shocked" and "disappointed" at the breach in their security system and that guests' confidentiality was compromised.
