The person responsible for leaking video footage showing an alleged attack on Jay Z by Beyoncé's sister Solange has been fired.

Fans were shocked this week when leaked CCTV footage from The Standard Hotel in New York showed a woman believed to be Solange lunging towards a man believed to be Jay Z.

The man does not retaliate while a security guard attempts to restrain the woman. A second woman believed to be Beyoncé, is also present but not involved in the altercation.

The grainy footage was filmed in the hotel's lift shortly after the Met Ball earlier this month. As soon as it was leaked, the hotel launched an investigation.

Now, a rep for the hotel has said the individual responsible for gaining the footage and leaking it to the media has been sacked.

"The Standard has already terminated the individual and will now be pursuing all available civil and criminal remedies," said the spokesperson.

When the footage was first leaked, the hotel said it was "shocked and disappointed" at the breach in their security system that led to guests' confidentiality being compromised, although did not identify the guests in question.

Beyoncé, Jay Z and Solange have all remained quiet about the alleged altercation, leading to numerous rumours about what may have caused the situation to escalate. (Not to mention numerous memes poking fun at it.)

Beyoncé has shared pictures of herself and Solange to Instagram, perhaps suggesting things are fine between the sisters.

While they've not spoken out, the always rather cryptic Beyoncé has been on Instagram apparently diffusing the speculation of rifts. She posted four throwback pictures of herself and Solange cuddling up and having fun, presumably showing all is A-OK between the Knowles sister.

Beyoncé also uploaded a photo of herself and Rihanna at the end, perhaps to indirectly deny rumours claiming the attack happened when Jay Z decided to go to Rihanna's party without his wife.
