A statement issued to Reuters on behalf of Doughty Street Chambers congratulated George and Amal on their impending wedding, although neither George and Amal themselves had confirmed the engagement rumours.
The company's chief executive, Robin Jackson, added of Amal: "She brings a bright light to everything she is involved in, and I am so delighted at her happy news."
Rumours that George, 52, had proposed to British lawyer Amal, 36, surfaced at the weekend, with a source telling People magazine that the low-key couple are very much in love and "plan on being together forever." Amal had been pictured with a ring on her engagement finger while out with Oscar winner George in Los Angeles.
Known for being rather cagey when it comes to his personal life, George has not spoken out about the engagement, and a rep for the actor would only say he wouldn't comment on private matters.
But the congratulations from Amal's London-based law firm colleagues would suggest the engagement is very much on.
It's believed that George and Amal began dating towards the end of 2013.
Fans of George were rather surprised by the engagement news as he's often referred to as the world's most eligible bachelor, following serious relationships with women such as Lisa Snowdon, Stacy Keibler, Elisabetta Canallis and Sarah Larson, which all ended without marriage.
George has been married once before, to actress Talia Balsam, from 1989 until 1993.
