Alexandra Burke has assured fans her role in West End show The Bodyguard doesn't mean she's quitting music.

X Factor winner Alex will take on the challenging role of troubled singer Rachel Marron at the Adelphi Theatre in London from June. The role was made famous by the late Whitney Houston in the movie co-starring Kevin Costner.

While it's fantastic news for Alex, it had left some wondering if it meant she was quitting music for acting. Alex, however, has insisted this isn't the case

Alex tweeted: "Lol.What's this rumour that I'm giving up on music? Jeeze. Some people can be so dramatic. That's NOT happening!! EVER!!!!! Music is my life!"

The 'Broken Heels' singer went on to explain: "Doing the Bodyguard for 3 months doesn't mean it's the end of music for me. It just means I can't record at the same time! Very simple.

"The Bodyguard is an exciting venture for me and I can't wait to get started! Thank you to those who are supporting me. It's a challenge I'm very scared about - but at the same time so excited about !!"

Alexandra started rehearsals for the musical yesterday. She'll take over from the show's current star, Beverley Knight, in June.

Since winning X Factor in 2008, the 25-year-old has scored chart success with singles including 'Hallelujah', 'Bad Boys', The Silence', and 'Broken Heels'. She's also returned to the X Factor as a guest judge and joined an all-star lineup in New York to honour Chaka Khan.
