Minnie Driver is taking a break from Twitter after receiving cruel comments apparently sparked by photographs of her in a bikini on holiday.

The Good Will Hunting actress, 44, was pictured recently looking fab while enjoying the beach in Florida with her five-year-old son Henry, but it seems some online trolls took the opportunity to make rude remarks about the star.

Taking to Twitter, an upset Minnie said: "God, some people are horrible… I'm out of this Twittersphere for a while. It's too mean sometimes. About your body, about your soul. Not worth it."

Minnie's fans were quick to rally to her defence, saying they hoped she got some privacy for the rest of her holiday and reassuring her she looks fabulous.

"I thought you looked happily stunning," wrote one, while another said: "People act ugly when they themselves are insecure and jealous. Ignore them. You are classy and lovely."

British-born Minnie currently stars in NBC sitcom About A Boy, based on the book by Nick Hornby. It was already adapted into a successful film starring Hugh Grant back in 2002.
