Pregnant X Factor winner Sam Bailey has asked former mentor Sharon Osbourne to be godmother to her unborn child.

Mum-of-two Sam, who is expecting her first child with husband Craig Pearson, had wanted Sharon to play a special part in her child's life.

Sharon mentored Sam to victory on The X Factor last year (December 2013).

Taking to Twitter last night (12 March), Sharon said: "@SamBaileyREAL I would be honoured to be your baby's Godmother!"

Former prison officer Sam replied: "@MrsSOsbourne wow..... I am so pleased xxx thank you xx I am one very lucky lady to have u in my life Mrs O xx."

Sam announced her pregnancy news last week, admitting she found out she would be having a third child after taking a pregnancy test in her local ASDA supermarket.

'Skyscraper' singer Sam has since shared a scan picture of her unborn baby, telling fans: "Hey everyone...... Meet peanut!!!" Sam and husband Craig are already proud parents to daughter Brooke and son Tommy.

Sharon mentored Sam on The X Factor in the Overs category last year, and was triumphant for the first time as a judge after Sam beat Nicholas McDonald to be crowned the show's winner.

Speaking about her bond with LA-based Sharon, Sam told Reveal last month: "I keep getting in trouble because I get the time zones wrong and keep ringing her at like 4am! She asked how I was doing. She's doing well, I should text her more really. She's put me onto some really good people and I trust her."

Sam is also gearing up for the release of her debut album, The Power of Love, on 24 March. Leicester-born Sam, who is currently showcasing her vocals on 'The X Factor Live Tour', has already previewed a sampler of her 11-track album.
