Earlier this week (and after months and months of speculation!) Cheryl confirmed that she will indeed be appearing on X Factor again later this year, right by Simon's side.
She broke the news via a photo of herself play-fighting with the music mogul, while also proving that the pair are back on good terms once more.
But it took A LOT of begging and apologising from Simon before Cheryl even considered returning to the popular singing competition this time around. (As you probably remember, she left X Factor in 2011 to join the US version but was sacked by Simon after just a few days in the job.)
Speaking on ITV's Daybreak this morning (12 March), she said: "There's only so much begging one can take. It's not nice to see a grown man cry so I finally succumbed."
Meanwhile Simon admitted that he'd apologised to the Geordie singer more than once for their famous fallout a few years ago, in the hope that she would join him on the show again.
"I've done this for a long time, you have fallouts along the way," he said. "I held my hands up and said I made a mistake and I was sorry and was sorry and when I decided I wanted to come back, I also decided I had to have Cheryl back on the show."
With two judges seats now left to fill, there have been rumours that X Factor veteran Louis Walsh will be coming back for another year, despite him announcing he was leaving in 2013.
But whoever the other judges may be, one thing is for certain: Simon will not be choosing anyone without Cheryl's approval!
The first-time father said: "We've spoken to people but we did agree when Cheryl agreed to come back on the show that we'd agree together because I'm not going to put somebody next to her that she hates."
And it sounds like Chezza is gunning for some girl power on the panel, as she added: "I would prefer to have another woman!!
It's no secret that 30-year-old Cheryl and her opinionated co-star have not always seen eye-eye and their on-off friendship has been scrutinised for some time.
However, Simon believes the friction between them makes for a more honest relationship.
"If you work with somebody and you're not comfortable to argue that's a horrible way to work and we've always been that way," he said. "We've always argued but it's being passionate about what you like and what you don't like."
As well as light-hearted arguments, Cheryl recently found another way to wind 54-year-old Simon up.
Speaking about his birthday last year, the Girls Aloud songstress revealed: "I heard a rumour Simon didn't want anyone to know it was his birthday which highly amused something inside of me. So I found out from people - who I won't drop in it - where he was, how long he was going to be there, was he there on his birthday.
"Then I sent a plane across with a banner so I just let the whole place know it was his birthday, what age he was and I made it fly around the place the same amount of times as his age!
"I think the response was 'I-dot-am-dot-going-dot-to-dot-kill you', but I was highly amused for a long time."
Last night, Simon celebrated Cheryl's return with a star-studded X Factor gathering at Arts Club in Mayfair, London.
Guest included Sinitta, David Walliams and Louis Walsh, as well as Simon's girlfriend Lauren Silverman, who gave birth to the couple's first son Eric last month.
Discussing the new addition to his family this morning on ITV's Lorraine, Simon said: "I now have two babies in my life [Cheryl and Eric]… no I haven't gone near [a nappy] yet but he's been amazing, everything happened really quickly.
"We took some time off which was fun, got to know him, the dogs got to know him and I was describing earlier on what my house is like now. It's chaotic but fantastic, it's great fun, so I wouldn't change anything. I feel happy."
