The 36-year-old gave up her role as a prison officer when she won X Factor's tenth series in December 2013, and scooped the recording contract prize.
However, during an appearance on The One Show, she confessed: "I do miss it, I really do. The day is never the same. It's a rewarding job to be in.
"People don't really understand what prison officers do. They think they just have a set of keys and walk around swinging them which isn't the case. I miss the rewarding side of it, working with other people, working with difficult individuals and challenging situations. I really do miss it. I don't want to detach myself from it totally."
While she may not be a prison guard any longer, Sam has certainly been keeping busy since her X Factor triumph under the mentorship of Sharon Osbourne.
She released winner's single 'Skycraper' - a cover of the Demi Lovato song - which made Christmas number one, and has recorded her debut solo album, The Power of Love, which arrives later this month.
Since February, the Leicestershire singer has been on the 'X Factor Live Tour'.
She also had the opportunity to open for Beyoncé at her 'Mrs Carter Show' tour date in Birmingham, although sadly didn't get to meet the lady herself.
Sam will also tour herself in 2015. Dates had been scheduled for later this year but she postponed them after discovering that she is pregnant with her third child.
The singer announced her happy baby news last week, saying her record label and management had been fully supportive.
