The Glee star looked in good spirits as she posed with her parents Edith and Mark on a hilltop in the sunshine on Monday (3 February), adding the caption: "Family hike with mum and dad! Starting the week right!"
Aside from starting the week with a hike, the actress also started it by releasing the cover of her new book Brunette Ambition.
Lea, who shot to fame playing Rachel Berry in Glee, told fans last week that she'd been working on the project for a long time and it was "very special" to her. "I'm so excited for you guys to read [it]," she added.
Brunette Ambition is available from May 2014 and a description on its official website says: "The star of the hit show Glee shares her experiences and insider tips on beauty, fashion, inner strength, and more in an illustrated book that's part memoir, part how-to, and part style guide. "
It is described as a "practical and inspirational guide to harnessing tenacity and passion… [and] living the fullest life, no matter what obstacles life puts in your way."
Lea has certainly had a challenging year following the death of her boyfriend and Glee co-star Cory Monteith. He was found dead in a Vancouver, Canada hotel room in July 2013 from an accidental overdose of heroin and alcohol.
Just before Christmas last year, 27-year-old Lea said in an interview that she felt like the "luckiest girl" every day she was with Cory.
"I literally lived every day of my life feeling like the luckiest girl in the whole world. l thought he was the greatest man," she told Ellen DeGeneres.
She added that she is continuing on as Cory would have wanted, saying he was always supportive of her career, particularly her ambitions to become a singer outside of Glee. She released her debut single 'Cannonball' last month.
"[My mum] told me at one point there is an empowerment that comes with grief. At some point you find it. It's hard but you'll find it. I think at a certain point you can choose to fall from this or choose to rise. I'm trying to do my best for him as I know that's what he would have wanted."
