The TOWIE star was so poorly during the last two weeks of her time in CBB that she was taken to hospital for tests.
Sam told ITV's This Morning on Friday (31 January): "My experience compared to everybody else was so different and I'm absolutely gutted.
"For two weeks I couldn't hold food down whatsoever, and I still haven't had my results back from the hospital and I was in and out of hospital while I was in there as well. I went in there twice for blood tests and scans and it was really serious.
"As much as I tried to do as much as I could, with the more tricky tasks I couldn't do them for health and safety, I couldn't drink alcohol so I was absolutely gutted. But I can't thank everyone enough. I was so lucky to be in a house with caring people because everyone did really look after me."
Details of Sam's illness have not been made public, although it's reported at one stage her face became swollen after an allergic reaction, while she's also said to have suffered an upset stomach before her hospital dash.
Her illness was not referenced on the Channel 5 show until the final episode when viewers saw her thanking her housemates for their support.
Then, speaking to Emma Willis after she finished fifth, Sam said: "For two weeks I was ill in that house and on antibiotics. I can't tell you how gutted I was. One night I was in bed crying thinking, 'What have I done? It's the most amazing thing I've done so far in my life and I'm ill.'
"Every night everyone was drinking and getting drunk. I was gutted. I'm the big party girl, the ringleader of all my friends, out every weekend. Tonight I was like, 'Pour me a glass of champagne, I don't care!'"
