The Geordie duo seemed genuinely gobsmacked to be given the accolade, which was backed by Prince Charles, and were emotional as they took to the stage.
A montage of the lads' 25-year career was played to the audience and viewers at home, and it featured a host of celebrities who praised them for their talent and success.
Ant and Dec's mums also appeared in the clip and, unbeknown to their sons, were secretly sat in the crowd at London's O2 Arena.
While collecting the award, Dec seemed to struggle with his emotions as a stunned Ant attempted to make a speech.
Capturing the moment, Ant took a selfie on stage, which the duo later shared on Twitter, before hugging Dec and saying: "I love you, man."
Ant and Dec now have a total of 23 National Television Awards after also picking up the gongs for 'Entertainment Presenter' - for the 13th year running - and 'Best Entertainment Programme' for I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!.
The pair were in Cardiff yesterday (22 January) filming Britain's Got Talent and arrived late to the event after being flown there on a private plane.
While waiting to take off, they shared a picture of themselves on Twitter, joking: "#NTAs on our way......we could parachute out like the Queen and James Bond if you fancy??"
