One Direction have topped off an incredible year by scooping the record for having the UK's biggest selling album of 2013.

1D's Midnight Memories has sold more than 700,000 copies and, incredibly, it was only released five weeks ago!

Emeli Sande had dominated the Official Charts Company's record with Our Version Of Events for most of the year, but One Direction's Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Lian Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik have beaten her at the last hurdle.

However, there's no need for Emeli to feel down, as she was awarded the accolade last year for the album - which has sold a whopping 2.07 million copies to date. Wow!

Speaking to, Liam gushed: "We're so excited to have the biggest selling album in the UK this year, especially with a record we are all so proud of.

"We'd like to thank everyone who has bought the album, it really means a lot to us."

Midnight Memories was released on 25 November and the lads shifted 237,000 during the first week alone. It not only became the fastest selling album of 2013, but also One Direction's fastest selling album.

One Direction's movie This Is Us also became the fastest selling DVD/Blu-Ray ever in the UK, with 270,000 copies being snapped up in the first three days of release in November.

What a year. We think the 1D boys deserve a glass of bubbly or two at midnight tonight!
