The former England goalkeeper is still together with professional skater Frankie five years after meeting through the ITV1 show and has revealed they are now engaged.
David, 50, told the Mail Online that he owes everything to the show.
He said: "If it wasn't for the show, I may not have met her."
David met Frankie, 40, during rehearsals for the show's five-week live tour that began in April 2008. At the time, their relationship raised eyebrows as he was married to his second wife Debbie Rogers, with whom he has two children.
But David and Frankie are happier than ever and are to star in the ninth and final series of the skating show together, airing in January 2014.
He says: "It is going to be extra special when this series starts.
"We are engaged now and [...] it is nice to be able to dance together."
Sam Attwater and Vicky Ogden were the first couple to have met through DOI to get engaged. The couple are due to marry in August 2014 in Farnham in Surrey.
Sam will also be skating with his wife-to-be on Dancing On Ice when the series starts on Sunday 5 January on ITV1 at 6.15pm.
