The Wanted have cancelled the mainland Europe leg of their world tour.

Nathan Sykes, Max George, Jay McGuiness, Siva Kaneswaran and Tom Parker made the announcement via their website on Tuesday night (10 December), citing "unforeseeable changes in scheduling."

No dates in the UK, Ireland or US will be affected.

The post read: "To all our fans in mainland Europe, we're really sorry but due to some unforeseeable changes in our scheduling, we're having to cancel our European tour dates in February/March. Rest assured all tickets are refundable, and we do hope to see you again really soon! The UK, Ireland & US legs of the tour are not affected.

"Thanks for your ongoing support. Lots of love, The Wanted xx."

A later tweet said: "We're really sorry guys and totally gutted the European dates had to be cancelled. UK, Ireland & US are still on. It is out of our hands x."

The group didn't elaborate on what scheduling changes had been made but the announcement came a few days after Max flew home from their US tour to address a family issue.

No details have been given but a tweet from The Wanted's official account said: "To let all our #TWFanmily know, @MaxTheWanted headed home to attend some family matters & won't be with us for the rest of the trip. We will crack on as a 4-piece so we look forward to seeing you all in Charlotte, Montreal, Buffalo, Green Bay & Chicago."

After being inundated with messages of well wishing for Max, they added: "Thank you so much for all your lovely tweets and messages of support for @MaxTheWanted we know he really appreciates it."

Tom added on his own account: "Sending my love to @MaxTheWanted Be strong brother. We're here for you!! :)."
