Cheryl Cole has sent a message of congratulations to her former X Factor contestant Cher Lloyd after hearing she'd married fiancé Craig Monk.

'Swagger Jagger' singer Cher shocked us all by secretly tying the knot with hairdresser Craig this week and revealing the news via an Instagram picture of them on their wedding day.

Cheryl seemed just as surprised, tweeting: "Wow! Heard your good news. Congratulations Cher Lloyd. I hope you have many more happy years and memories to come. Cheryl x."

Cher replied: "Thank you so much." She added a picture of a pair of lips, sending a virtual kiss to her ex-mentor.

Cheryl and Cher have an interesting past. As a then-judge of X Factor, Cheryl picked Cher as one of her girls during the seventh season, saying later in her autobiography: "I absolutely loved her and had done from the start. She reminded me of myself, coming from a similar background and being gutsy, putting herself out there.

Cher looked beautiful in her wedding picture, tweeted 20 November.

But things appeared to turn sour after the show ended when Cher publicly said it was a shame Cheryl had not kept in touch. She was later accused of suggesting Cheryl used autotune, prompting a cryptic tweet from Cheryl: "Be Careful who you kick on your way up .. They kick you twice as hard on your way back down.. #unappreciationisugly (sic)."

Cher late apologised, saying: "It wasn't intended to sound as bad as it did. All I was saying is that I would love to perform with her live and then I made a little joke... I think it just got a bit blown out of proportion, so I just want to say sorry if she found that offensive."

"At the end of the day she was the person who got me to where I am today, so if it wasn't for her I wouldn't be sat here."

Cheryl then said in an interview: "She's new. She needs to learn a lot. I went through hell to get her on that programme. Everyone says stuff at the beginning of their career that they will learn to regret. It's disappointing because I fought for her. Maybe I didn't teach her as well as I thought I had."

Well, we're glad they've sorted out all their differences now.
