The famously outspoken actor, 36, is set to become the new landlord of the Queen Vic when he joins the BBC1 soap at Christmas after signing a one-year deal... But he has already managed to start a soap war against Emmerdale.
In an interview on Soccer FM (via The Mirror), the Londoner said that viewers have deserted EastEnders as it goes through a "mad stage".
He elaborated: "It's all I'm saying, no-one is watching it.
"It's getting beat in the ratings by a farm.
"No disrespect, but it's a soap about a farm and that is smashing it to pieces in the ratings so they've brought me in to give it a little injection of something."
Emmerdale cast members have since hit back at Danny, calling him "disrespectful".
Responding to the comments on Twitter, actress Charley Webb said: "You should never disrespect another show. We should all be supportive of each other."
Meanwhile, Michelle Hardwick, who plays Vanessa Woodfield, believes the comments were disrespectful to Danny's own cast members.
She said: "Bet his cast mates are looking forward to him coming in and 'saving' the show.... Disrespecting us and them aswell xxx"
Danny has since claimed that the comments were "just a bit of banter" and that no disrespect was intended.
His character Mick Carter will be joined by wife Linda (Kellie Bright) and their children Johnny (Sam Strike) and Nancy (Maddy Hill).
