Singer-songwriter Abi was sent home from the ITV show on Sunday night (10 November) after falling into the bottom two alongside Hannah Barrett.
Both girls were in Nicole's category which made it a very difficult evening for the 'Boomerang' singer. In the end, she abstained from voting for one of her girls over the other, so it was the majority vote of Sharon Osbourne and Gary Barlow that sent Abi home.
Taking to Twitter today, Abi gave Nicole a shout-out, saying: "Thank you to my amazing mentor Nicole for believing in me and bringing me this far."
She added a picture of herself and Nicole wearing pyjamas. It was taken at the same sleepover that Nicole tweeted pictures from last month.
Abi was in tears when she left the show but later embraced a more positive approach, telling fans that "when one door closes another one opens."
One such door will be on the X Factor Live Tour next year. Abi will join the remaining contestants for a string of arena dates across the UK.
Abi added to the X Factor official website that her fans will make sure she's okay going forward. "They are feisty, dedicated and they'll look after me. It's crazy that they have taken that time out to support me, but I'm so grateful."
Nicole said on Xtra Factor after Abi's exit: "I'm pretty gutted, I didn't expect both my girls to be in the bottom two. My favourite part of the whole night is when I saw Abi realise she was singing with Hannah and the look on her face, all she cared about the whole time was Hannah. I think that was beautiful and showed so much about her character."
Meanwhile, speaking on ITV's This Morning the following day, Abi said: "It was really hard because Hannah has been in the bottom two before and I knew how much it would affect her. Hannah is a sensitive soul and I'm close to her so it was difficult."
