The singer was a member of Busted alongside Matt Willis and James Bourne but when the band parted ways in 2005 he turned his attentions from pop music to rock.
Fast forward a few years and Busted are gearing up for a comeback. Matt and James were in London this morning alongside the McFly boys to announce the two bands were teaming up to form a supergroup and would go on tour next year.
Charlie, however, was not present at the press conference leading to speculation he would not be taking part in the reunion.
He confirmed that via Twitter this afternoon, writing: "Just wanted to say that though I am not joining Matt and James on their new venture, I wish them all the very best with it!"
Since leaving Busted, Charlie went on to focus full time on his band Fightstar before launching a solo career. He spent this year playing on the Vans Warped Tour in the US (which has hosted bands like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, 30 Seconds To Mars and Blink-182) and will release his second solo album next year.
Charlie told MusicWeek at the start of the year that although the style of music he sang in Busted wasn't his favourite, he wouldn't change the experience.
"It wasn't something that was reflective of me but it was still something that I would never turn around and say I regret. It was an amazing experience but I think it's quite clear from what I've done since that I have no intention of ever going back to it."
