The rumours are true and we couldn't be more excited: McFly and Busted have joined forces to form supergroup McBusted and have confirmed that they will be going on tour next year!

The two hit-making boy bands announced their highly anticipated news this morning (11 November) at a press conference in London, which was hosted by Big Brother presenter Emma Willis - also known as Matt Willis from Busted's other half.

Matt and his Busted bandmate James Bourne were joined by McFly's Tom Fletcher, Harry Judd, Danny Jones and Dougie Poynter to make their huge announcement and the boys have now also set up a Twitter account dedicated to their supergroup.

Their first tweet read: "Huge announcement... McFly & Busted are coming together for a tour in April 2014. Follow @mcbusted for more news! #McBusted" with their second tweet simply saying: "The rumours are true... #McBusted."

The group also uploaded a photo of themselves at the press conference and stood in front of a projection of Busted's debut album cover - with a twist.

The projection shows each member of the band stood in a police line-up with the name 'McBusted' stamped across them in big red font.

After the conference, McFly frontman Tom tweeted: "Yep, it's official, @McBusted Tour 2014!!!!!!!!!!"

Not present at the announcement this morning however, was Busted's third member Charlie Simpson.

Rumours that the two British boy bands were planning to unite began circulating last week.

McFly have assured fans that they will still be releasing a new album, as well as touring with Busted

But this won't be the first time they have collaborated on stage, as Busted surprised fans at McFly's 10th anniversary show in September by joining the foursome on stage and performing some of their biggest tracks together. James actually co-wrote plenty of McFly tracks.

The crowd's reaction to Busted joining McFly at their anniversary show may be one of the main reasons the two groups have now decided to embark on a UK tour next April, as Tom admitted he didn't expect fans to go so wild.

McBusted will be touring in April 2014, kicking off in Liverpool on 19 April, and they are also set to perform on BBC's Children In Need this Friday.

We cannot wait!
