Katie, who announced in September that she was expecting her first child with her boyfriend of two years, opened up on her feelings about becoming a mother, as well as her approach to parenting in a new BBC interview.
The 30-year-old burns survivor and charity founder openly spoke about her baby joy with presenter Jeremy Vine, in aid of BBC Children in Need.
Five years ago, Katie suffered life-changing injuries in an acid attack arranged by an ex-boyfriend and an accomplice, which resulted in dozens upon dozens of operations.
Katie, who had been trying for a baby for some time, said: "I feel so lucky because for any woman it's a blessing to be able to conceive and carry a child, and to be honest, there was a time in my life when I thought I'd lost that privilege.
"I had to keep saying to myself; 'it's real, it's really happening to me!'"
When Katie was asked if she had received any parenting tips, she revealed: "I'm quite laid back. I have a really good example with my own mother.
"She's been a wonderful parent so I'll get some advice from her and follow her lead."
Katie's interview was part of a wider BBC Radio 2 project, whereby a host of leading DJs were asked to interview their heroes, including Sir Paul McCartney, Lulu and Jeremy Paxman.
Podcasts are available as of today from bbc.co.uk/radio2, with every penny going to BBC Children in Need, to help change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.
