The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced that Zara Phillips is among the seven close friends and family chosen as godparents for baby son Prince George.

Kate Middleton and Prince William confirmed their picks on Wednesday morning (23 October), just hours before Prince George will be christened at the chapel at St. James's Palace in London.

Kate and William have chosen for George's christening to be a low-key affair away from the public eye. Instead of a large venue like the traditional Music Room at Buckingham Palace, they chose the relatively small chapel at St. James's Palace and are said to have limited the guest list to immediate family and close friends.

The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles, Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince Harry are among the royal family members who will attend. Kate's family in attendance will include mum Carole Middleton, dad Michael Middleton and siblings James and Pippa.

Prince George will wear a hand-made replica of the Royal Christening Robe, made by Angela Kelly, The Queen's dressmaker.

Kate attended a public engagement at the Olympic Park in London last week.

Following the service, a private tea will be hosted by Charles and Camilla in Clarence House. Guests will be served slices of christening cake, which is a tier taken from The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding cake.

Jason Bell will be the official photographer for the christening, taking pictures at Clarence House following the event. A selection of photos will be released to the public on 24 October.

George was born on 22 July 2013 at the private Lido Wing at St. Mary's Hospital. His full name is His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis.

The world got its first glimpse at George the day after his birth when Kate and William left the hospital. Since then, the only time we've seen him has been in a set of pictures taken by Kate's dad Michael Middleton and released during the summer.

George is third in line to the throne after his grandfather Prince Charles and father Prince William.
