This week, Max was quoted in a national newspaper explaining that 'Heartbreak Story', from the band's forthcoming album Word Of Mouth, is about his split with the Coronation Street actress.
But last night (21 October) the boyband star, who is now dating Danish model Nina Agdal, took to Twitter and claimed: "Songs I've written are close to me, can I relate to them, of course. Have I ever said they're about someone specific? Never."
Max, who is currently in Los Angeles where his boyband are touring, began dating Michelle in 2011, becoming engaged to her six months later. However, the couple split in 2012.

Max has previously opened up about his relationship with Michelle, and explained on The Wanted's fly-on-the-wall reality show, The Wanted Life, that their split was "difficult".
Michelle, 26, later found love with former TOWIE hunk Mark Wright and the pair are now engaged, after Mark proposed to her while on holiday in Dubai in September.
'Walks Like Rihanna' star Max has since congratulated Michelle on her engagement. Speaking on ITV's Daybreak last month, he said: "I'm actually really happy for her. She's a wonderful girl. I've met Mark and he seems like a really nice bloke, so I wish them all the luck in the world."
