Blue's Lee Ryan auditioned for a new boy band when he was 15 - and was judged by Simon Cowell!

The singer was today shown some throwback footage of himself trying out for the group, which was put together on ITV1's This Morning as part of a competition.

Lee actually made it into the band alongside Will Young, who later went on to win Pop Idol, however unfortunately it never took off.

But all was not lost for Lee, as Antony Costa had also entered the competition and they later went on to form Blue.

Lee was shown the footage today as party of This Morning's 25th anniversary celebrations and he admitted that he very nearly became a roofer, rather than a pop star.

"I walked out of school when I was 15 because I just knew I wanted to be a singer," Lee told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

"I wanted to earn some money though so kept bugging this guy about working on the roofs. I don't know if I actually wanted to be a roofer..."

Luckily, Lee's aunt entered him for the This Morning competition and the rest, as they say, is history!
