Producers for the TV awards show announced yesterday that this year's "In Memoriam" section would be expanded, allowing close friends of the late actors to pay their respects with personal tributes.
Cory, who played Finn in Glee, was found dead in a Vancouver, Canada hotel room on 13 July 2013. An autopsy later ruled the 33-year-old's death was due to an overdose of heroin and alcohol.
His Glee co-star Jane Lynch (Sue) will speak about him at Sunday's Emmys.
Meanwhile, Sopranos star James (Tony Soprano) will be remembered by his co-star Edie Falco. James passed away following a suspected heart attack while on holiday in Italy on 20 June.
Cory and James are among five people who have been selected for a special tribute at the star-studded ceremony. Also being remembered through personal tributes will be Mork and Mindy's Jonathan Winters, All In The Family actress Jean Stapleton and Family Ties producer Gary David Goldberg.
Emmys executive producer Ken Ehrlich told the LA Times: "These five individuals brought us such great entertainment and joy, so having their close friends share personal remembrances is something that will be very meaningful for television audiences across the country and across the generations."
The Emmys take place this Sunday in Los Angeles.
