Prince George has met his great grandfather Prince Philip for the first time after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at Balmoral Castle over the weekend.

According to reports, Prince William and Kate landed with their baby son at Aberdeen airport on Sunday afternoon (15 September) and were taken to the royal residence where Philip has been recovering following surgery earlier this year.

Kate and William attend their first red carpet event since George's birth, at the Tusk Trust Awards on 12 Sept 2013.

Prince George was born at St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London on 22 July. He met his grandfather Prince Charles, and Kate's parents Carol and Michael the day after his birth, and other family members including The Queen, Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton in the following days. However, his meeting with Philip was delayed as the 92-year-old royal has been recuperating in Scotland following exploratory abdominal surgery.

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, are also believed to be staying near Balmoral. This gathering of royals, therefore, could mark the first time three future monarch have been pictured with the current monarch.

A source told The Mirror: "This was an incredible moment for Philip. He has been desperate to meet his great grandson and having the family together is really special for him."

Prince George has not been seen in public since the day after his birth when his proud parents introduced him to the world on the steps of the Lido Wing.

We have, however, seen pictures of him after the royal couple released two images of themselves cradling Prince George in the gardens of Kate's parents' house in Berkshire. Breaking with tradition, the pictures were taken by Kate's dad Michael rather than a professional photographer.

It's been a busy time for William and Kate, who have been preparing for a move from Angelsey to Kensington Palace.

William and Kate have been living at a cottage in Anglesey since 2009 while Wills worked in the area as a search and rescue pilot, but it was announced last week that he would be leaving the military to focus on his royal and charitable duties.

They are expected to take up permanent residence at Kensington Palace soon.

William did, however, find time to attend a friend's wedding at the weekend, joining Prince Harry for the nuptials of James Meade and Lady Laura Marsham in Norfolk.

While Kate's sister Pippa was in attendance, Kate chose to miss the wedding as she was reportedly looking after George and planning for the family trip to Scotland.
