Ed Sheeran has announced two huge bits of news in just two days: he's headlining Madison Square Garden in November and joining The Voice US as a guest mentor!

The British singer-songwriter will cement his success in the US with a huge concert at the iconic MSG in New York City on 1 September 2013.

Other stars who have played the 18,000-capacity venue include Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and One Direction.

Announcing the news on Twitter, Ed said: "My dad always said you haven't made it til you've played MSG so it's a massive honour."

Someone who already has their eye on a ticket is Ed's One Direction friend Harry Styles, who tweeted at him: "Can I come please?"

"Of course," replied Ed. "I'd be offended if you didn't."

Ed's debut album +, which spawned hit singles like 'The A Team', 'Drunk' and 'Lego House', reached the top five in the US charts.

He recently joined Taylor Swift on her mammoth US tour.

Aside from his exciting MSG news, the star also announced this week he'll act as a celebrity guest mentor for Christina Aguilera on the new series of The Voice US.

Ed told Extra of his role: "I didn't want to be too brutally honest. Everyone here has this kind of energy and vibe and talent that is like a driving force."

The fifth series starts in the US in September. Christina is returning as a coach following a season's break, where Shakira stepped in as cover.
