Chris Fountain has been sacked from Coronation Street.

ITV announced on Monday night (19 August) that it had terminated the actor's contract following the recent scandal that saw him unmasked as the rapper behind a series of offensive videos posted to YouTube.

A statement said: "Chris Fountain's contract with ITV has been terminated as a result of the unacceptable comments he made in a number of online clips".

25-year-old Chris, who plays Tommy Duckworth, had originally been suspended when it emerged he was the man behind masked rapper The Phantom, whose lyrics included references to rape and violence .

He apologised for the videos in a statement last week, saying: "I am deeply ashamed by the lyrics and very much regret my behaviour. The videos were made over a year ago when I was experimenting with music and I've not done anything like it since, nor will I."

The videos are no longer available on YouTube.

Prior to appearing in Coronation Street, Chris found fame playing Justin Burton on Hollyoaks and appeared in Dancing On Ice.
