According to The Mirror, Prince William and Kate would like to release pictures of the baby taken by themselves and Kate's family rather than hire someone for an official photoshoot.
"Kate has a great eye for pictures and wants the first official ones of George to be natural and in a relaxed environment," claimed a source, who added the pictures could be released via Twitter as early as next week.
A source added to People: "The whole point of these photos is that as many people have access to them who need to and we will find the easiest way of doing that."
The world has already had a glimpse at George – when Kate left the hospital with him on 23 July – but traditionally new royal parents also release official portraits.
Kate has remained holed up with George at her parents' home in Berkshire since leaving the St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London last month.
The new family spent a night at Kensington Palace in London following George's birth but then travelled to Bucklebury to spend time with George in the privacy of Kate's parents' estate.
While Kate has stayed away from the public eye since the birth, Prince William has been seen out and about, including at a charity polo match in Ascot on 3 August where he said he needed to pick up nappies on the way home.
Prince George – whose full name is His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge – has already met most of his immediate family members.
He was visited in hospital by Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, and Kate's parents Carole and Michael Middleton. He met Prince Harry, the Queen and Kate's sister Pippa the following day at Kensington Palace.
It's believed George will meet his great-grandfather Prince Phillip in the coming week. The Queen's husband has been recovering following exploratory abdominal surgery in June but today made his first public appearance in two months, handing out medals at the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
He'll travel to Balmoral to meet up with the Queen this week and it's thought the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will introduce him to baby George there.
