Despite the show ending after ten seasons in 2004, both Matthew (who played Chandler Bing) and Lisa (who played Phoebe Buffay) have revealed that they would have kept going.
The two actors, who chatted on Piers Morgan Live (26 July), relived their fondest memories on set, calling their time on the US sitcom "fun" and "the greatest job in the world".
Matthew said: "I found myself reminiscing about how much fun the show was, and the hours that we worked and you can see how much we laughed and everything. If I had a time machine, I would like to go back to 2004 and not have stopped."
When Matthew asked Lisa if she felt the same, she said: "Yes, if it were up to us, individually then yes, I would keep going.
"There would have come a time anyway when someone would have said, 'we've had enough' but why not have fun until they do?"
Hailed as one of the most popular sitcoms of all time, Friends, which was on air from 1994 until 2004, revolved around a group of friends from Manhattan. Aside from Matthew and Lisa, it also starred Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green), Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), David Schwimmer (Ross Geller) and Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani).
Matthew continued: "I think the ideology was we would decide because that would be better, but I disagree. Looking back, no don't let us decide, let's keep going, it's the greatest job in the world.
"It was," added Lisa. "We had a lot of fun, it was just really fun."
Matthew added: "We knew we were part of something special and we were very grateful the whole time. In that meeting, when we all said let's stop, I probably would have said 'hey, let's not stop.'"
Rumours of a Friends reunion heading for the big screen have been swirling around since the beginning of this year, but several cast members, including Jennifer and Matt, have dismissed reports. Also last week, Lisa said she felt she was "too old" to return to the show, but after this latest revelation, someone please find a time machine!
