The first time parents caused quite a stir last week when it was revealed that they had shunned a name beginning with the traditional letter 'K' for their baby girl and gone with 'North West' instead.
However, it sounds like there was more to their decision than just stumbling across a quirky and unique alternative to 'Kaidence' - which is what the baby was initially rumoured to have been called.
A source told E! News that the moniker isn't just a play on Kanye's surname, but North can also stand for the "the most high" and the child apparently symbolises Kanye and Kim's "highest point together".
The source added: "Kim keeps saying, 'She is our North Star'".
While some people may still be getting used to referring to baby KimYe as North West now, Kardashian matriarch, Kris Jenner, has admitted that she is a huge fan of her granddaughter's name and claims that it is creative.
Kris, 57, also stopped by The Today Show this morning (25 June) and explained that little North West and new mum Kim - who gave birth on 15 June - are both doing well.
She said: "Right now everybody is good the baby is doing is great and happy and healthy and it's a really joyful time. It's amazing."
Although when probed about whether Kanye popped the question to Kim after the arrival of North West and if there would be another Kardashian wedding on the horizon soon, Kris remained tight lipped.
Instead she said: "You'll have to ask them that".
