Exclusive: Gemma Merna: 'I'm too busy to make babies!'

Hollyoaks actress Gemma Merna - aka Carmel McQueen - has been so busy with new business ventures that she is putting plans for babies on the backseat for a while.

Gemma, 27, and her husband Ian Minton, who she wed in May, have just launched a new multivitamin soft drink for diabetics, called Vitzer.

Inspired by Ian's Type 1 diabetes, the couple developed the drink which promises no carbs, no calories and no sugar, and is therefore suitable for diabetics.



Gemma tells Reveal: "We came up with the idea because you can never find anything with no sugars. Then we developed the flavours and vitamins to put in it. It's also a girl's best friend because it has zero everything - zero sugar, zero carbs, zero calories, so it's great for everybody."

Gemma and property developer Ian have worked together since they got married in May this year, and have been working on the project for the past 9-12 months.

"It's great to have an idea then see it in the flesh. I'm very proud of my husband for doing this and I'm sure lots of people with diabetes will be thanking him too," says Gemma.



Gemma is extremely proud of Vitzer and its healthy qualities, although she has no worries about her own body image.

"I keep on top of my weight - I train about 3 times a week and work hard to maintain my fitness. I'm conscious of my body image, but in a healthy living way."

But, with her acting work and new business ventures (she's also got another project in the pipeline with her pal, TOWIE's Sam Faiers), Gemma says her schedule is too full at the moment to consider starting a family.

She says: "We're both very busy, we never stop, so we can't fit it in. But, when the time is right, and if we're blessed enough to have a child, then hopefully one day we will."



Gemma tells us: "We've not long got married, and our wedding was fantastic. We had some great friends and family who shared it with us as well.

"My onscreen family - Jennifer Metcalfe, Nicole Barber-Lane, Leah Hackett and Jorgie Porter - were my bridesmaids.

"I joined Hollyoaks when I was 23 and it was like the university experience for me. It's so intense filming 12 hours that you don't have much other life so you do become very close, and they become your family."
