But, research by Avon has found that many women feel shyness and stigma holds them back from wearing a bold red lip.
Despite 31 percent of the women they polled saying those who wear it in the workplace are much more confident, and 20 per cent saying those women appear powerful, over half of them were too shy to do it themselves...
So why is it that 54 per cent of them wouldn't dare rock the red themselves?
The top three feelings respondents described in response to red lipstick were "sexy" "dressed up" and "confident". But the reasons they avoided the look included, they're "not brave enough" and "don't like the attention it causes."
Only six percent would wear it to ask for a pay rise, seven percent regularly wear it to meetings and eight percent would wear it in a job interview.
It appears there is great stigma surrounding the striking shade as when asked, 13 percent of women and 7 percent of men felt that red lipstick in the work place was inappropriate.
Most bizarrely, more than 40 percent of people said it's unprofessional for a doctor to wear it.
This even extends to their social lives. While 40 percent thought wearing red lipstick on a first date shows confidence, an astounding 20 percent said it's provocative on a first date and a further 10 percent think it is inappropriate on a first date.
