According to a new survey from travel price comparison website, TravelSupermarket, thirty-four per cent of people admit to drinking more on holiday than they do at home.
The research into "How Great Britain Holidays" also shows that one in 10 British travellers reveal the thing they most look forward to on holiday is guilt-free drinking.
The average British male holidaymaker starts drinking over an hour earlier than women (3.43pm compared to 4.45pm).
Sheffield residents head to a bar earlier than any other British holidaymakers, typically sipping their first alcoholic drink at 3.41pm – 34 minutes earlier than the rest of the nation.
Great Britain's holidaymakers also spend time more with a pint in hand than they do swimming in the pool or the sea, spending an hour and 43 minutes each day drinking alcohol compared to an hour and 22 minutes and an hour and 13 minutes respectively.
